Larry Richard Hoover
Larry Richard Hoover, 72, of Conway passed away on January 7, 2019. He was born Richard Lawrence (later changed to Larry R. Hoover) to the late Paul Richard Hoover and Annie Peacock Hoover in Dermott on May 19, 1946.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Annie Hoover, and sister Pauline (Daugherty) Brady.
Larry is survived by his son, L. Wayne (Stefanie) Hoover; his grandchildren, Brittany Hoover and great-grandchild Eden, Brett Hoover, Greg Hoover and Payton Hoover; his sister, Gay Nelle (Rabb) Griffith; his wife of many years, Jane Hoover and her sons, David and Steve; David’s children, Brandy, Dylan and Dakota; Steve’s children, Halle and Tayla; and many nephews, nieces, friends, horses and dogs.
Larry made a profession of faith when he was 11 years old at a revival service in Collins under the preaching of the late Bro. Jack Ferguson and was baptized in Mr. Harris Jordan’s pond. He then joined Cominto Baptist Church.
Larry joined the Army and served during the Vietnam War, worked at Caterpillar in Aurora, Ill. until his retirement, then—just because he was bored at home—he worked many years at the Conway Walmart. His love of the outdoors led to many an adventure on his beloved tractors, he could do anything with them, including getting the tractor stuck in the creek … many times—“just trying to do something.”
He was a master at rigging things to work. No vehicle could ever die on his watch; he could fix anything. He will be missed by all his family and friends.
A memorial service was held at Bishop Crites Funeral Home in Greenbrier on Wednesday, January 9. A graveside service is scheduled at Mount Tabor Cemetery in Monticello at noon on March 16, 2019. Bro. Ray Heaaron will perform the service with Larry’s grandson, Greg Hoover, singing “Amazing Grace.”
