Larry Richard Hoover
Larry Richard Hoover, 72, of Conway passed away on January 7, 2019. He was born Richard Lawrence (later changed to Larry R. Hoover) to the late Paul Richard Hoover and Annie Peacock Hoover in Dermott on May 19, 1946.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Annie Hoover; and a sister, Pauline (Daugherty) Brady.
Larry is survived by his son, L. Wayne (Stefanie) Hoover; his grandchild, Brittany Hoover; and his great-grandchildren, Eden Hoover, Brett Hoover, Greg Hoover and Payton Hoover; a sister, Gaynelle (Rabb) Griffith; his wife of many years, Jane Hoover; her sons David and Steve; David’s children, Brandy, Dylan and Dakota; and many nephews, nieces, friends, horses and dogs.
Larry made a profession of faith when he was 11 years old at a revival service in Collins under the preaching of the Brother Jack Ferguson and was baptized in Mr. Harris Jordan’s pond. He then joined Cominto Baptist Church.
Larry joined the Army and served during the Vietnam War, worked at Caterpillar in Aurora, Ill. until his retirement then—just because he was bored at home—he worked many years at the Conway Walmart.
His love of the outdoors led to many an adventure on his beloved tractors. He could do anything with
them, including getting the tractor stuck in the creek—many times—“just trying to do something.”
He was a master at rigging things to work. No vehicle could ever die on his watch; he could fix anything. He will be missed by all his family and friends.
A memorial service was held at Bishop Crites Funeral Home in Greenbrier on Wednesday, January 9th. A follow-up graveside service at Mt. Tabor Cemetery in Monticello is to be determined.
