Jay R. Manes
Jay R. Manes, 91, of Monticello passed Sunday, January 27, 2019. Mr. Manes was the 11th child of 14 children born to George Washington Asberry-Manes and Kizzy Runnells Manes of Collinsville, Okla. on June 22, 1927.
Mr. Manes originally lived in Dumas before living in Monticello. He was a retired farmer who described by his family as free-hearted and loving—always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. He loved to play dominos, card games and the harmonica.
On Sept. 9, 1946, he married Febbie Jane Burnett of Yell County. He was a member of the Old Union Baptist Church in Florence. In his later years, he rededicated his life to Christ. Mr. Manes was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years; parents; as well as five brothers and six sisters.
Survivors include three sons, James (Barbara) Manes of Monticello, Bobby (Sharon) Manes of Dumas and Wesley Manes of Monticello; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. Thursday, January 31, 2019 prior to funeral services at 2 p.m., both held at Griffin Funeral Home with Rev. Monty Meeks officiating. Burial will be at Walnut Lake Cemetery. Arrangements are by Griffin Funeral Home of Dumas.
