Hugh Warden Pennington

Hugh Warden Pennington, 91, of Monticello passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at his home. He was born August 12, 1927, in Drew County to the late Charles Leonard Pennington and Susie Warden Wilson Pennington.

He was a retired Georgia Pacific forester with 42 years of service and was a longtime member of New Hope Assembly of God Church before becoming a member of First Assembly of God Church of Monticello. 

Mr. Hugh loved the outdoors, forestry and hunting. His wife was the love of his life and his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the apple of his eye.    

It was said by many that you didn’t have to talk to him long to know he was a good man. He led his family by Christian examples and will always have a special place in many hearts. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Harry, Charles and Bobby Pennington; and three sisters, Yvonne May, Betty Wallis and Jane Harris.

Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Christine Rodgers Pennington of Monticello; one daughter, Gayle Pennington (Roy) York of Monticello; one son, Mike (Susan) Pennington of Monticello; eight grandchildren, Christie Davila of Springdale, Murry (Lee Ann) Walker of Springdale, Michelle (Seth) Galyean of Forney, Texas, Laura (Cody) Hartley of Guam, Shawn (Shad) Woods of Fayetteville, Patrick (Ginny) York of White Lake, Mich., Roianne (Chris) Johnson of Symsonia, Ky. and Robert York of Clarksville, Tenn.; 13 great-grandchildren, Grayson, Christian, Ivy, Peyton, Baylee, Grace, Asher, Liam, Harper, Abbigayle, Allicen, Lillie, Kaden, Josh and Jonathan; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services were Saturday, June 22, 2019, at Stephenson-Dearman Chapel with burial following in Green Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to New Hope Independent Assembly of God Church, 738 Bowser Road, Wilmar 71675, First Assembly of God Church, 915 U.S. Highway 425 North, Monticello 71655 or Hospice Home Care, 990 U.S. Highway 425 North, Monticello 71655.
