Donna Gail Stewart
Donna Gail (Smith) Stewart was born on April 14, 1947 in Crossett to parents Don and Oma Smith, deceased; she grew up in Monticello; she is survived by her husband David Stewart; son Brian Blackburn and granddaughter Sarah Blackburn of Hot Springs; son Whitney Milam and daughter Abby Milam, both of Bentonville; sister Sudie Smith, of Grapevine, Texas; stepson Kevin Stewart and wife Helen, and sons Robert and Patrick, of Alexandria, Va.; and stepdaughter Elizabeth Hill and husband Zac, and daughter Julia, of Durham (Washington County). Her younger sister, Janet, predeceased her. Donna is also survived by a large number of nephews, nieces and cousins that loved her dearly.
Donna passed away under Willard Walker Hospice care on March 17, 2019 after a year-long battle with small-cell lung cancer. The family wishes to thank Highlands Oncology Group doctors, nurses and staff, and Willard Walker Hospice personnel for their love and continued support during the past year. Her life was much richer during her last year because of their devotion to her.
Donna will always be remembered for her devotion to her children, for her love for the children of every family member—be they close or far away—as well as to all the children of the world. Her heart bled constantly for the injustice and peril foisted upon those less fortunate in this world, and she spared no one in speaking her mind about it. She shed many tears in the process. Fools needed to be on their toes when she was around.
Though a woman of great physical beauty, her beauty was eclipsed by great spiritual depth and, though flawed as we all are, tried daily to conduct herself in a manner that conveyed empathy and love to everyone she touched. She will be missed and leaves many broken hearts.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2019 at Moore’s Chapel, 206 West Center Street in Fayetteville. The public is invited. Come as you are.
