Traffic stop discovers drugs, gun

On Thursday, Aug. 31, Drew County Sheriff’s Deputy Daniel Garrison made a traffic stop on a vehicle with no license plate and having no working left tail light.
As Garrison approached the vehicle, the drivers window was not rolled down. Garrison announced his presence and the driver rolled the window down and Garrison was able to see a rifle in the front seat.
The driver was asked to step out of the vehicle for the safety of him and the deputy.
Upon further investigation, Garrison discovered that the driver was Joshua Tarlton of Dumas and was on active supervision with a search warrant on file.
Tarlton did not resist and was arrested at the scene.
Inside the vehicle, officers found the rifle, methamphetamine and a pipe.
Tarlton was taken to the Drew County Detention Facility where he was charged with: possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a firearm and drugs simultaneously, felon in possession of a gun, failure to register his vehicle, no license plate and no tail light.
Tarlton has since been released from the Drew County Detention Facility on a $5,000 bond. No court date has yet been set.
