All interested Drew County voters:
There will be a “Meet the Candidates” gathering at 6:30 p.m. tonight at the Living Word Fellowship Church, 181 U.S. Highway 425 South. All candidates for opposed county positions will be available for open questions.
Early voting for this election begins at 8 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 22 at the Drew County Courthouse, 210 South Main Street, and at the Ethel Hawkins Life Center at Holmes Chapel Presbyterian Church, 5427 East McCloy Avenue. The hours for both locations are Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. On the Monday before Election Day, early voting ends at 5 p.m.
Tuesday, Nov. 6 is the General Election; check with voterview.org for polling places. Polling places will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. that day.
Only three county offices are not unopposed but Drew County voters must make decisions in some major races. For county judge, incumbent Independent Robert Akin is being challenged by Republican Jessie Griffin; for county sheriff, incumbent Democrat Mark Gober has opposition from Independent Tim Nichols; and for county clerk, incumbent Democrat Lyna Gulledge faces Independent Vickey Haycox in the General Election. All six are scheduled to attend tonight’s meeting.
Everyone is welcome. Refreshments will be served.
